Watchdog Wednesday with The Posterity Project

Gordon Belt has a Tennessee-based take on how public history (and hence genealogy) is faring as the "Great Recession" continues. Check out his December 4 posting: if you live or work in affected states, you need to know; if you don't, you need to give thanks.

Thanks for getting the word out about these important developments. It's a shame that the states highlighted in this roundup do not see the inherent value of public records and public history, and the need for continued funding. Yes, times are tough for all of us, but without proper funding for access to these important resources we cannot hold our state and local governments accountable, and we cannot leave our historical legacy to future generations. The more people know and react to what their elected representatives are doing the better.
